Chicago Devotion Recognizes The Adoption Center of Illinois
Written by Jon-Michael Foshee
The Chicago Devotion team is proud to shine a spotlight on outstanding organizations, businesses, or persons that are an inspiration to our community, such as The Adoption Center of Illinois.
Our mission is to create and share positive resources to better the lives of our fellow Chicagoans, and to spread knowledge of helpful tools available to you. Recognizing Chicago is our way of highlighting those who make Chicago a better place on a daily basis.
The Adoption Center of Illinois has been providing exceptional adoptive support, guidance, and education to Illinois communities for over 30 years. Their mission may sound simple, but it is extremely important: To help children through adoption.
They do this by:
- Finding permanent, loving adoptive families for children, regardless of the background or health of the child.
- Safeguarding the best interests and welfare of children placed in our care.
- Advancing the practice and understanding of adoption.
The Adoption Center of Illinois Philosophy, per their website: www.adoptioncenterofillinois.org/our-mission/
We are committed to a contemporary, innovative and compassionate approach to adoption. Our agency approves Illinois families for adoption according to DCFS standards and Illinois law. We assess prospective adoptive parents on an individual basis regardless of race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, age (applicants must be at least 25 years of age), religion, mental or physical disability, marital status, length of marriage, size or composition of existing family, participation in infertility treatment, or any other factors protected by law.
For Birthparents, the Adoption Center of Illinois provides confidential services free of charge, which includes emotional and financial support, and adoption counseling without judgment.
For Adoptive Parents, they provide both traditional adoption as well as agency-assisted adoption. They will walk you through the full selection process, and provide post-adoption communication and medical history for the child.
The Adoption Center of Illinois also offers Home Study Services, and offers a range of presentations, seminars, and panels designed to assist parents in understanding critical adoption issues.
In 2008, the U.S. became a signatory of the Hague Adoption Convention, significantly altering the international adoption process.
The Adoption Center of Illinois is a Hague accredited agency for both Incoming and Outgoing adoption services, and they take pride in working with interested potential adoptive families to help them navigate the process, by providing outstanding Hague home study services and adoption education and training.
The Adoption Center of Illinois is also a Member Agency of the National Council for Adoption.
The National Council For Adoption’s mission is to meet the diverse needs of children, birth parents, adopted individuals, adoptive families, and all those touched by adoption through global advocacy, education, research, legislative action, and collaboration.
